Krystalline has made an incredible cover arrangement of The Ink Spots “I Don’t Want to Set the World on Fire,” written by Bennie Benjamin, Eddie Durham, Sol Marcus, and Eddie Seiler in 1938. The song’s most successful cover was by Horace Heidt on Columbia Records in 1941, whose version reached number one on the US pop chart, with The Ink Spots on Decca in 1941, also reaching number four on the same listing.

Kara Ciezki discovered The Ink Spots in 2009 whilst working as the Music Director on After Dark Theatre’s production “Limbo-requiem.” The Ink Spots were an American jazz group who gained international fame in the 1930’s and 1940’s. They were one of the first African-America groups, along with the Mills Brothers, to reach both black and white audiences, and had a huge influence on the development of the doo-wop vocal style.

In Kara's version under the alias of Krystalline, and with her clever use of synths and vocal layering to create impressive effects, you’re taken to a dark emotional state with her sultry tone. The use of the piano and the piano riff she’s created elevates the arrangement which is just genius. Over the layering of synths, strings, and voice effects, you’re left feeling with what can only be described as goosebumps.

This song especially became popular after the attack on Pearl Harbour in December 1941 and has been featured in many movies and TV shows in popular culture, including The Simpson’s “Treehouse of Horror XVII”, Doctor Who’s 1971 episode “Terror of the Autons” and most notably Bethesda Softworks video games “Fallout.”

With the highly anticipated “Fallout” TV adaptation being released imminently this April in 2024, it’s time for the world to hear Kara’s version of this song!!

What an incredible song by Carole King and how fantadtic to sung it as part of The Australian Barbra Streisand Show at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club on Saturday 6 April💕

Barbra was doing a sneaky costume change so what better female artist to include in the show than an icon that Barbra Streisand looked up to.

Can I say what a moment playing with incredible musicians, I really could pinch myself being on stage with Rachael Grace (Babs), John Thorn (piano), Adrian Close (bass) and Darryn Farrugia (drums).

This incredible rendition by Kara Ciezki gives us an ingenius mashup combination of heartbreak, using strong emotive songs from Maroon 5, George Michael & Wham!, and Bruno Mars.
‘Harder to Breathe’ was the debut single of American band Maroon 5 and was released in July 2002 as the lead single from the band’s debut album ‘Songs About Jane’. It tells the story about a former relationship Adam Levine was involved in with a woman named Jane, who according to Levine was also the muse for the band’s album. It expresses a lot of tension as it was ‘written quickly under trying circumstances’ due to pressure from their label needing another song quickly for the debut album. It’s a strong song, with gritty guitar riffs and powerful vocals about recovering from heartbreak.
Layer this with the crushing lyrics and gorgeous melody of ‘Careless Whisper’, a song originally ironically about a girl called Jane that George Michael had a crush on that he eventually started seeing while dating another girl. The whole idea of ‘Careless Whisper’ was the first girl Jane not finding out about the second. It’s a song about being a two-timer, feeling guilty about seeing Jane, dancing with her for the last time knowing that she knows, and then the relationship is finished.
The way the layers of vocals and harmonies move around the melodies of these songs, combined with that incredible saxophone solo and with the interjections of featured vocals from ‘Locked out of Heaven’ by Bruno Mars, and the build-up towards the end, can only predict this mashup will be a favourite.

What is SMASH IT UP?
SMASH IT UP is an album concept and show created by Kara Ciezki, that specialises in re-creating mashups in ways you never expected!
A mashup is a technique which involves the blending of two or more pre-recorded songs, where the vocal track of one song is overlayed seamlessly over the instrumental track of another song. There are thousands of mashups that have been created by DJ’s and music producers, but these new releases take the mashup to another level – a SMASH UP!
Using well known iconic songs that people know and love from artists including Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, Adele, Britney Spears and The Eurythmics, and putting them together with more recent artists such as Billie Eilish, Tones & I, Jonas Brothers, Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles, these songs have been re-created beyond the typical ‘mashup.’
Expect to hear incredible recordings with a sensational live band, horn section, and 50+ layers of vocal harmonies and arrangements.
The album will be released in full in September 2024, with all 9 singles off the album being released over the next 12 months on all major platforms, in both Stereo and Dolby Atmos.
You may have heard these songs before, but what sets these releases apart is the fact you’ve never heard them arranged in this way or in Dolby Atmos with immersive sound.
